Garage Side Door Wind Break Fence and Base

The garage was built with a side pass door, and with the cold weather approaching wanted to start using it, to save garage heat by not using the big front door.

A platform or pad for the door was needed, and also wanted to have some sort of a windbreak, along with a storm door.

above) Two shots showing the side door, exposed to the elements.

above) The wind break platforms and side screens dry assembled in the garage ( the end screen is about 7 feet tall).

And an end view

The platforms started life as a couple of shipping pallets; found a couple of good ones with no spaces between the boards. The pallets where reinforced with additional deck wood stringers and the top boards where screwed ( along with the original nails) down. the whole base shebang thing was then treated with Deck Sealer. The platforms where laid in position outside on a bed of good sized pond pebbles. They help drain the bases, keeping them dry to avert rot.

The sidewalls are made of pressure treated 2 X 4 and 2 X 2 deck lumber. The screws are ceramic coated deck screws.

The sidewall lattice is zero maintenance ( always looks nice ) plastic. The version with the close spacing of the lattices ( what are the individual boards in plural, lati, latticeses, or lattice's; who knows, who cares, you get the picture).

Plan on making some sort of an arch to the front entryway, will post it when it's done.
